Remember this clearly?
Mid summer, hot afternoon, sitting at home in a humid room,
Or maybe it’s got aircon? Food at the table, roof on your head
Everything you could ever ask for.
But your mother: In the kitchen or gone outside,
The only time she ever sits like you is when you’re asleep
Or when she’s too tired to weep and work
So she just weeps
-Doesn’t let you know though, Mothers are strong like that.
Behind every child is a working machine,
This woman never had fancy cars or clothes to feed her ego,
She never had extravagant tea parties and
She never gave your childhood away to nannies.
She never sold you because you were too much trouble,
She endured the pain as you grew to be a challenge
-both in and out of the stomach.
Yet you’d dare do this to her?
Because ‘you can’t look after her.’
You can never repay her for her struggles,
Not even for one labour pain,
So next time your mother asks you for something,
Think about those days, think about how helpless you were as a baby,
Think about the love in her heart, Think Think Think,
Don’t complain.
